To build a system for an individual department within a company. The system was to allow staff to enter their annual leave requests and for their manager to approve these leave requests.

Functionality
- An external ActiveX control was used in creating this database. This consisted of a monthly calendar which enabled the user to select the start and end dates of their leave.
- The functionality of the ActiveX control allowed the database to check to see if the user was entitled to leave, and to see whether or not his leave clashed with the leave of another employee. Once the user had entered the leave into the database, the user could print off their leave request form.
- When their manager received their request, the manager could return to the database to a secured area to approve or disallow the request. This database had a multitude of layered functions controlled by user groups and user security.

Outcome
This database was written in conjunction with the contact at the client's site, who had the knowledge to update and amend functionality, and to request additional functionality as required. The database has taken 2 years to complete to this stage and is the active Annual Leave system for the department involved.
